Borobudur as the one of the biggest buddhist temple in the world not only use as the oneof  tourist attraction in Indonesia but also used as the place for buddha pray and do the religion agenda like Vesak. The celebration of Vesak Day 2021 yesterday left beautiful things and unforgettable memories because it was accompanied by 1000 lanterns that filled the night sky in Magelang, Central Java. On this occasion, the lantern flight was aimed at commemorating the great day of the Buddhists, and the general public saw 1000 lanterns. The atmosphere is very touching because many ritual and non-ritual moments accompany the Vesak blessing.

The Facts of the Vesak Celebration

The facts of the Vesak celebration consist of 3 points:

  1. Commemorating the birth of the future Buddha in 623 B.C, located in Lubini Park, Kapilavasthu, Nepal
  2. Commemorating the day of perfect enlightenment in 588 A.D, situated under the Bodhi Tree, Bodhgaya, India
  3. Commemorating the death or death of Gautama Buddha in 543 B.C, at the age of 80, Kusinara, India.

During the celebration of Vesak Day 2021, Buddhists fervently pray and do much self-introspection during their lives. The most important Buddhist teaching is always to think positively with God’s given destiny, remember every kind of people to us, and be compassionate for all living beings.

The stages of the Vesak celebration begin a week before the day arrives by lighting incense in every house so that the ancestors who come are welcomed. Then, a candle flower ceremony is held as a ritual to honour those who have contributed to the death. After that, the Buddha statue bathing ceremony was held to appreciate the Lord Buddha who keeps his people from harm, protects the family, and provides prosperity. The ceremony of bathing the Buddha statue is material and controls the lust of human greed. The evil nature inherent in humans can appear at any time.

What do you do during Vesak Day?

During the Vesak celebrations for Buddhists, Buddhist leaders will tell people about the birth of Buddha, Buddha’s journey to becoming a holy leader with compassion, patience, not thinking about the world, and always praying for safety.
